Wow so fitocracy didn’t save everything I typed about what happened at my gym -_-

Anyway.

As I was nearing the end of my deadlift sets, one of the powerlifting people who work out at my gym came in for his bench day and he had watch me do one of my 290 lifts.

He told me that my form was wrong, which caught me off guard because I thought it was good. Not sure if it was because of the weight or if my form has been wrong this entire time and no one has bother to tell me. People have watched me and always complimented me before, so I was confused.

He said, I have a lot of strength and power, he can tell, but my form is off.

So after working with me for a few minutes he was telling me that his legs naturally go out wide when he deadlifts, so the standard form isn’t good for him. It’ll always be off. He told me about sumo deadlifts and how it benefited him. Works the same muscle groups, and better on him.

My legs do the same thing, so I did it, and right off the bat I had perfect form.

So, from now on I’m going to be doing the sumo style deadlifts.

For those of you who aren’t sure what sumo style deadlifts are, they are the same thing as normal deadlifts but your legs are spread wider, usually right before the plates and you grab the bar from the middle, usually right by the first “groves” on the bar. Where as with the standard style, your legs are closer together and you grab the bar from the outside of your legs.
